We’ve been busy lately here at Neo Code and I wanted to give you an update.
First off we have received our FileMaker 11 Certification, and have been awarded FileMaker Platinum Level partner status, which is very exciting.
To celebrate we are offering a 15% discount on any FileMaker licenses purchased in August 2010. To qualify we just a need signed purchase order, a signed work order or you can purchase online through our strore - http://store.neocodesoftware.com.
Secondly we have been upgrading our data center. Here are a list of upgrades we have done lately and how they help us deliver better hosting:
1. UPS (battery backup) upgrades — The servers now have direct UPS connections. Prior to this we had network UPS connections, but if there was a power failure and the network was down, servers wouldn't get the message to power down. Now that we have direct connections, the two recent power outages didn't impact our servers.
2. Backup server upgrades — We added 10 terabytes of backup storage for more backup retention options. The options now available are: once a day, once a week, and once a month and faster restores. We also upgraded to Bacula 5 for file de-duplication to use backup capacity more efficiently.
3. Planned 100% increase in Internet bandwidth — Due to be in place by September 1st, 2010. We will increase our MTS-Allstream pipe from 10mb to 20mb. Please note that our current utilization is extremely low. We are increasing our bandwidth not because we were running low but to allow us to host your higher bandwidth applications - such as video hosting, voice over ip, and corporate file hosting. Note that while Allstream has assured us that there will be no major service disruption, there is always the chance, however small, that a service interruption may occur. We will do everything possible to minimize the chance of service disruption.
4. Cable labeling upgraded — Upgraded cable labels makes server and network maintenance easier. We have upgraded the labelling on over 500 cables. If you'd like your network and servers labelled for easier server and network maintenance let us know.
5. Improved server documentation using a Wiki — Having up to date documentation lets us troubleshoot issues easier, and provide better support to customers because we have all your information at our fingertips. If you'd like to know how having a wiki to document your internal processes let us know.
6. Emergency Notification System Upgrade — Our automated monitoring system has been upgraded to alerts our network administrators by calling (actually sends a text message) their cell phones to let them know that there is an emergency to improve service uptime by reducing the time it takes to notify our staff of a failure.
7. Improved temperature monitoring — We carefully monitor all our server rooms 24x7 to insure that our equipment temperature stays at the correct temperature. Keeping servers at the right temperature insures that they stay running.
Finally, our monthly software maintenance support plans have proved very successful. We have been able to offer discounted development hours based on the duration and volume of the monthly contract. The monthly plans deliver regular scheduled upgrades and support for your custom solutions.

Drawing upon their expertise in developing FileMaker databases for the web, Neo Code adapted Manitoba Hotel Association's existing tradeshow registration FileMaker 8 database for the world wide web. The database acts as a directory of potential guests for the annual Centrex tradeshow for hotels & restaurants. In little over ten hours, Neo Code not only created a secure, web-accessible interface for guest registration, but also added time saving functions such as list management tools, bulk email functionality, emailing confirmations, and a system for generating unique registration access codes. The remotely hosted solution allows tradeshow office staff to enter and change data without affecting online registrants.
The solution supported more than 2,000 registrations in the first year -- most of them online -- placing Centrex among the highest registration counts of any event at Winnipeg Convention Centre. The percentage of delegates registering electronically went from 5% to 58%. Fax registrations, which must be entered manually by office staff, dropped from 80% to 30%.
Phase-2 will entail creating a module to automatically email guests a registration confirmation, as well as adapting an 'Exhibiting Companies' database for the web-- to allow those companies to access and change their information automatically.

Neo Code was invited to attend MacWorld, courtesy of the fine people at MoneyWorks!
MoneyWorks launched its double entry accounting suite of products into the US at MacWorld.
While working in the booth, we met lots of people frustrated with MYOB, and Quickbooks.
MoneyWorks has a plugin for integrating to FileMaker. And MarketCircle, makers of DayLite, have connectors for exchanging data with FileMaker and MoneyWorks.
Of course I got a chance to play with the new MacBook Air. It's nice, the battery lasts five hours, and it has a cool multitouch trackpad.
However the coolest thing was www.eye.fi's 2GB SD memory card that includes built in wifi to automatically upload photo's to iPhoto, flikr or any number of other sites. For $99 I had to get it.

Neo Code Order Processing (OP) now integrates with MoneyWorks DataCentre.
After a client places an order in OP, the order is shipped to the DataCentre.
What's cooler is that the order can be placed with a iPhone, a BlackBerry, or a Danger SideKick.
The integration was done using FTP, AppleScript and the MoneyWorks Commandline interface.
